The Dual Language program at Blanton Elementary will support all Multilingual Students to reach high academic levels of achievement through a bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural education.
In maintaining with our work towards high academic outcomes for our multilingual learners and in response to community needs, Blanton is phasing out our current Dual Language Model.
Students 2nd-5th grade will participate in the following models during the 2018-2019 school year:
One-Way Dual Language is a program that includes instruction in both English and Spanish to help students excel academically while becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. A one-way program is intended for native Spanish speakers.
Two-Way Dual Language is a program that includes instruction in both English and Spanish to help students excel academically while becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. A two-way program is intended for both native Spanish speakers and native English speakers.
Students PreK-1st grade will participate in the following model during the 2018-2019 school year:
In 2017, Blanton Elementary joined a cohort of schools within Austin ISD to further promote biliteracy. Blanton Elementary is now following an 80:20 Dual Language model.
Full implementation (K-5) will take place by the 2022 school year.
