Dear Annie Webb Blanton Staff, Parents, and Community.
It is with great pride and honor that I have the opportunity to write to you as the newly appointed Interim Principal of Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School. We all know that the coming months will bring ongoing transformations and challenges, and I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve the Blanton community.
I began my teaching career in New Orleans, where I taught elementary school until 2005. After moving to Austin, I taught both English Language Arts and Mathematics at Webb Middle School. I became a district math specialist and worked with teachers and students in grades Pk-12. When I transitioned to campus leadership, I came back to elementary school as a place of unyielding optimism that builds on our children’s foundation of learning begun at home. From elementary school, we have the opportunity to launch them into their future with the pride and confidence that they are ready to succeed in their further education and college, career, and life. Personally, I am a Spanish-as-a-second-language speaker, and I have seen the value and benefit that learning and speaking a second language has brought to my life. I am committed to Dual Language programs as an option for our families in Austin, and thrilled to support the Dual Language program at Blanton. I have been an assistant principal for 6 years (at Summitt, Joslin, and Oak Springs) and have always worked collaboratively with staff, parents, and community to ensure success for ALL of our students.
Blanton has a rich history and strong culture, and it will be my first goal to immerse myself in the world of Blanton, get to know the people who make it shine, and build strong relationships. I will be inviting staff and parents to online meetings and forums so that we can start to get to know each other. To begin, please know about me that I believe that school should be a place of joy, I value creativity and innovation in the school we build together, and I truly believe that ALL students can think, learn, develop self-motivation, and improve the world we live in.
I know that the uncertainty in the world about COVID-19 is also in each of our homes. Please know that I am here to help and work collaboratively with everyone to serve our students and help them achieve their fullest potential. My door is always open and I welcome your questions and positive input. I know that the 2020-2021 school year will be one of courage, pride, achievement, and community, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead and learn with all of you.

Es con gran orgullo y honor que tengo la oportunidad de escribirles como la recién designada Directora Interina de la Primaria Annie Webb Blanton. Todos sabemos que los próximos meses traerán continuas transformaciones y desafíos y me siento honrada de tener la oportunidad de servir a la comunidad de Blanton.
Comencé mi carrera docente en Nueva Orleans, en donde enseñé en la escuela primaria hasta el año 2005. Luego de mudarme a Austin, enseñé Artes del Lenguaje en inglés y Matemática en la Secundaria Webb. Me convertí en especialista en Matemática del distrito y trabajé con maestros y estudiantes de prekínder a 12.° grado. Cuando pasé al liderazgo del plantel, volví a la escuela primaria como un lugar de permanente optimismo que se basa en los cimientos de aprendizaje, iniciados en el hogar, de nuestros niños. Desde la escuela primaria tenemos la oportunidad de lanzarlos hacia su futuro con el orgullo y la confianza de que están preparados para tener éxito en sus estudios superiores y la universidad, sus carreras profesionales y sus vidas. Personalmente, hablo español como segundo idioma y he visto el valor y el beneficio que ha traído a mi vida aprender y hablar una segunda lengua. Estoy comprometida con los programas en Dos Idiomas como una opción para nuestras familias en Austin, y estoy entusiasmada de apoyar el programa de Lenguaje Dual en Blanton. He sido vicedirectora durante 6 años (en Summitt, Joslin y Oak Springs) y he trabajado siempre de manera colaborativa con el personal, los padres y la comunidad para garantizar el éxito para TODOS nuestros estudiantes.
Blanton tiene una rica historia y una fuerte cultura, y será mi primer objetivo sumergirme en el mundo de Blanton, conocer a las personas que la hacen brillar, y construir relaciones sólidas. Estaré invitando al personal y a los padres a reuniones y foros en línea de modo que podamos comenzar a conocernos. Como punto de partida, sepan de mí que creo que la escuela debería ser un lugar de gozo, valoro la creatividad y la innovación en la escuela que construimos juntos y estoy verdaderamente convencida de que TODOS los estudiantes pueden pensar, aprender, desarrollar la automotivación y mejorar el mundo en que vivimos.
Sé que la incertidumbre en el mundo acerca de la COVID-19 también está en cada uno de nuestros hogares. Sepan que estoy aquí para ayudar y trabajar de manera colaborativa con todos para servir a nuestros estudiantes y ayudarlos a alcanzar su máximo potencial. Mi puerta está siempre abierta y valoro sus preguntas y comentarios positivos. Sé que el año escolar 2020-2021 será un año de valentía, orgullo, logro y comunidad, y estoy agradecida por la oportunidad de liderar y aprender con todos ustedes.
