Mission
The Dual Language program at Blanton Elementary will support all Multilingual Students to reach high academic levels of achievement through a bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural education.
Program Models
Students 4th-5th grade will participate in the following models during the 2023-2024 school year:
Two-Way Dual Language is a program that includes instruction in both English and Spanish to help students excel academically while becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. A two-way program is intended for both native Spanish speakers and native English speakers.
Students PreK-3rd grade will participate in the following model during the 2023-2024 school year:
In 2017, Blanton Elementary joined a cohort of schools within Austin ISD to further promote biliteracy.
Blanton Elementary is now following an 80:20 Dual Language model. Our students spend the majority of their academic day learning in Spanish (as is represented below in red). This time decreases as students move through the program towards a day that is 50% in Spanish and 50% in English starting in 3rd grade.
Full implementation (K-5) will take place by the 2022 school year.
