About Blanton Elementary

Blanton Elementary School was built in 1964 and named in the honor of Annie Webb Blanton.

Annie Webb Blanton began her career as an educator in 1901, and was ultimately elected Superintendent of Texas Public Instruction making her the first woman in Texas elected to statewide office. Webb stood for education and women's rights. These passions were what drove her to pursue her doctorate in rural education and rural sociology, and then on to become a Professor of rural education at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the author of several books, and has several schools and buildings throughout Texas named after her.

Our school's mascot is the bobcat.

School colors are royal blue and white.
